your source for animal booty
June 14, 2009 at 8:44 am | In FO, crafts, non-craft | Leave a Commentyesterday, we braved cruddy morning rain and overcast skies and headed down to the san diego zoo. we hadn’t been down there for a couple of years, so there were a few new things to see. the new elephant enclosure is HUGE! it’s a far cry from the tiny yard they had before. we’d let our membership lapse since our last visit, so we had no clue that there were even any plans for such a big project. now that our membership has been renewed, we went back to check it out. and we saw:
panda booty…
and panda side.
gorilla booty…
and gorilla side.
llama booty and llama side, all at once!
along with monkeys and baby flamingos and tigers and camels and… well, you get the idea.
and when we came home, i sat at my craft table and worked on a new bit in the artbook:
i’m not 100% sure that it’s complete yet (as usual). i’ll come back to it in a few days and see how it feels.
how i’ve been spending my free time
January 24, 2009 at 7:41 am | In non-craft | Leave a Commentthe sickness started last wednesday. sore throat that turned into a rattling cough, then came the congestion.
this is my Get Well Team. the azithromycin joined the team last night, just in time! this should have been just a simple cold, but for me that tends to mutate into sinus infections and bronchitis. ugh. so there’s no crafting to speak of, just lots of coughing and nose-blowing and sleeping (thanks, generic nyquil!).
maybe next week i’ll have some more craftiness to report.
stay well, y’all!
something i found in the closet
September 27, 2008 at 1:33 pm | In non-craft | 2 Commentsi’ve been going through a lot of boxes over the past few weeks. not just those at mom’s, but some of my own. just clearing out the clutter, i guess.
in a box of some old journals, i found my ticket stubs from concerts and shows i attended in the 80s and early 90s. my first ever big concert was Echo and the Bunnymen. the opening bands were The Three O’Clock and The Fleshtones. what a show!
i thought i’d share the rest of the stubs i found in the box.
yes, i used to be a skateboarder. a crappy one to be sure, but one with friends who were sponsored skaters.
HEY, don’t laugh! i bet you have some equally hilarious ticket stubs in your own closet.
i know there are a few missing here and there. i used to love going to concerts. and anything i saw after 1992 is gone with the wind (or more likely shredded into oblivion with the rest of my old paperwork).
really short book reviews – part one
June 21, 2008 at 1:52 pm | In books, non-craft | Leave a Commenttoday, i finished reading John Scalzi’s The Android’s Dream.
i’ve been reading his excellent Whatever blog long enough that i figured i should actually read one of his books.
i like sci-fi a lot, i enjoy a bit of action and adventure, i thoroughly appreciate smartness (and smart-assed-ness and a boatload of humor) and i like authors who aren’t afraid to use foul language. scalzi puts all these elements together effectively and creatively.
my review: the book is KICK-ASS. ten thumbs up.
i’ve been tagged
June 6, 2008 at 6:56 am | In non-craft | 1 Commenti was tagged by the always awesome Roxanne at Cheetah Velour, sos here’s my first meme for this blog!
Here are the rules: I answer 6 questions about myself. At the end of the post, I tag 6 people and post their names. I then go to their blogs and leave them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read my blog. Finally, I let the person who tagged me know when I’ve posted my answers.
What was I doing ten years ago?
Hmmmm, no surprise – I was doing a lot of the same stuff I’m doing now. Desk jockey, craft maniac, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. Still not sure if I’ve gotten that figured out yet.
Five things on my to-do list for today?
Work work work!
Awesome Mexican food for lunch
Got to the post office and see if they really did lose my Flickr print order
Have a date with my husband
Finish reading Tim Powers’ “Earthquake Weather” (if you’re into sci-fi/fantasy stories set in southern California, I recommend him highly)
Snacks I like?
I don’t think there’s enough storage space on my blog to list them all! For a short list, though, I especially like:
Dark chocolate (especially with a glass of port)
Onion rings
Chips (potato, tortilla, veggie, whatever!)
Cookies!
Peanut butter panda puffs cereal
Things I would do if I were a billionaire?
I’d fund art programs for schools that can’t afford it. If any of my friends had a creative dream they wanted to follow, but lacked funding to do so, I’d fund their basic living expenses so they could write that novel or finish those paintings.
Oh, and I could finally afford to buy a house!
Places I have lived?
A stone’s throw from the banks of stinky Lake Michigan
Five different locations in three cities in Orange County, CA
Six people I want to know more about?

April 27, 2008 at 11:04 am | In non-craft | Leave a Commenti’m back from a vacation in lovely cambria, california, and i’m recharged and ready to get back to some crafting.
it’s not that i didn’t craft while i was away – in fact, my clapotis grew by a whopping 5%. but now that i’m back, the sewing machine is calling my name.
there’s a red corduroy jacket waiting to be cut out and sewn together, and a couple pair of linen trousers are waiting in the wings as well.
and yet another ballband dishcloth, too.
and a collaged birthday card.
and so on and so forth.
i should probably get started.
crafts, animals, etc.
February 10, 2008 at 9:53 am | In crafts, non-craft | 1 Commentthis sooper-seekrit project has been mailed and delivered, so i can post about it:
it’s a 5″ x 5″ canvas with a painted background and collaged pictures. i cut up a tiny wooden crate to make the frame.
i’m not sure which of these scans i like better, but they both show more detail than the photo above.
and now for a few photos from yesterday’s trip to the zoo:
flowers and stew
December 15, 2007 at 9:54 am | In food, non-craft | Leave a Commentmy mom gave me a bulb forcing kit a few weeks ago. lo and behold, i didn’t kill the darn things in the process. we’ve been enjoying these lovely little flowers for a few days now.
mmmm, steeeenky narcissus flowers. sometimes i find the scent a little too cloying, but these blooms haven’t been too overly pungent.
last night’s dinner was a big pot of veg chkn and dumplings. i used this recipe that i found through mypapercrane. ohmygoodness, was it delicious! the “meat” is a chicken-style seitan. the only part of the recipe i skipped was the addition of celery. i’m not a big fan of the stuff. oh, and i didn’t have tarragon, so i substituted marjoram. i think i’ll have some of the leftovers for dinner tonight.
this weekend will involve sewing and perhaps some papercraft. and yes, i’ll post pictures when i’m done.
