after having a decent time making bagels, i decided to try making soft pretzels. the setup is basically the same: make some dough, shape it, boil, then bake.
i used a pretty simple recipe that i pulled out of a martha stewart kids magazine a handful of years ago. i can’t find exact recipe to link to online, and there’s no date on any of the magazine pages, so i can’t reference a specific issue. looks like this recipe is close enough, and i’m sure there are a million other recipes posted elsewhere.
i made some with just salt, and some with onion, sesame seeds, salt and pepper. those were extra delicious.
next time, i’m going to plan ahead and whip up a batch of homemade mustard for dippin’.
in other news, i made another vest!
same pattern as usual. one pocket, on the left side.
fabric and buttons pulled from the stash.
have a wonderful weekend!

that vest is so cute! and those pretzels were exactly what I was craving last night…with a cold dark beer and a spicy nacho sauce. yum!
thank you! and the pretzels really do go great with a tasty beer…
Those pretzels look great. I made some one time with an Alton Brown recipe. The recipe called for more baking soda in the water than this recipe does, and I found them the perfect texture, but too soda-y. The next time I tried them, I reduced the soda to 2 T and found that the taste was better, but the texture not right.
Then I gave up.
my recipe calls for 3 teaspoons of baking soda in the water, and the pretzels are boiled for 30 seconds on each side. i’ll have to scan the recipe and post it so you can check it out! maybe it’ll work better for you.
