you might recall that last year, i won the grand prize in the Craft blog/Crafty Chica Dia de los Muertos Altar drawing thingie, and i got a box o’ Crafty Chica swag. well, the second part of my prize arrived this week!
holy crap, right? i now have a boatload of glitter! which is pretty sweet, because i was running low on sparkly stuff, and goodness knows i like sparkly stuff. and books! and sugar skull molds! and a papier mache skull painted by Crafty Chica herself! sweeeet.
and now for the latest skull:
that’s not ordinary black acrylic paint. that is chalkboard paint. i thought i’d try a little experiment, since i haven’t used the chalkboard paint on fabric yet.
i’ve been sketching my skull-painting ideas on pieces of paper, but it doesn’t quite cut it when translating to a 3-D project. i thought it might be nice to have a skull i can sketch on, over and over.
and HOLY CRAP, it looks like it might just work!
my next experiment will involve mixing chalk dust with water, so i can paint the designs on. and hopefully i’ll be able to erase the chalk “paint” after it dries.
in kitchen-related news, we picked up a new crockpot on sale at target a couple of weeks ago, and i took it for a test-drive yesterday.
the old crockpot still works, but it is OLD (think avocado green, with brown stoneware) and doesn’t have removable stoneware, which makes it a pain-in-the-ass to clean. the new one did a great job on my standard crockpot fare of beans (pinto this time around), and it has the extra bonus of being silver and black, like most of the rest of our kitchen appliances.
well, the wild parrots are screeching their heads off in a nearby tree (i kind of enjoy it – they make me laugh- but my husband finds them annoying as hell), and i have loads to do before my early lunch date, but i’ll be back soon with more skullwork, i’m sure.

yay! so happy you got the package, better late than never, right??? i’m posting my soft sculpture skull this week and am referring to yours in the post too! YOU ROCK, chica! happy crafting! happy dia de los muertos…
