inspired by the Stupid Sock Creatures book i bought a couple years ago, i pulled out the ol’ sock box yesterday and selected a few of the previously worn socks i’d stashed in there.

as some of you know, i was a sock monkey maker for a number of years, and i still have a sock stash in my craft room. i occasionally make monkeys now and again, but wanted to try something a little different this time around. just making monkeys gets kind of boring after awhile.

i followed some of the advice and directions from the book, and did a few things my own way, making it up as i went along.

i couldn’t help myself – i had to add a tail. once a monkey maker, always a monkey maker.

all stuffed and ready for some needle-sculpting.

et voilá!

this is my clapotis.

i’m almost to the point where i’m going to start the decrease rows. so close to finishing that i can taste it.

and yet… i’m going to have to leave it alone for awhile. the clapotis is officially ON HOLD.

apparently (according to my GP, anyway), i’m the not-so-happy owner of a case of TENNIS ELBOW. damn it anyway, i don’t even play tennis! [insert expletive-laden comments here] and what the hell?!

yeah, so no knitting for me for two weeks, and we’ll see how i feel then. but the doc gave me the green light for sewing. my sewing machine will be so pleased to be of use, i’m sure.

felicity, part two

hurrah for quick-and-easy projects! the felicity hat is complete.

and a small boo to myself for being lazy and not starting over when i was casting on. i did the long-tail cast-on and just about ran out of yarn in the process, so there’s a little bitty yarn tail sticking out in back. WHOOPSIE. i think i was on my third try at that point and i figured i was close enough. next time**, i’ll allow for a longer tail when i’m casting on.

overall, i’m really pleased with how it turned out!

** seeing as how i picked up a skein of the same yarn in black last week, i’ll definitely be making another felicity hat soon.

felicity, part one

i just cast on my latest knitting project: the Felicity hat from Knitology. i even checked my gauge before i cast on! i’m using Caron Simply Soft acrylic yarn in berry blue. so far, so good! i’m about an inch and a half into it. i’m guessing it’ll take me WAY less time to complete this project than it’ll take me to complete my clapotis.

speaking of clapotis, i only have a couple more repeats of the straight section before i start the decreases! whoop! maybe i’ll be able to finish it in time for fall! or at least before november, at which time it will have been on the needles for a year. d’oh.
