hippo jacket

i’d like to thank Ikea for using some really kick-ass fabric to make their affordable children’s bedding, which i can then purchase and turn into something new!

yup, this jacket was once a kid-sized duvet cover/sheet set. i put it together using the My Favorite Jacket pattern.

of course, i made a few changes to the pattern. instead of being an unlined jacket, it’s fully lined, and i opted for buttons instead of snaps. i couldn’t decide which buttons to use, so yeah, snaps it is.

i would’ve posted it last weekend, but after i worked on it all day saturday (almost to the point of being finished), i came down with the flu, which turned into bronchitis. go, me! i finally got back to the sewing machine today, and crossed one more project off my list.

my mom gave me a bulb forcing kit a few weeks ago. lo and behold, i didn’t kill the darn things in the process. we’ve been enjoying these lovely little flowers for a few days now.

IMG_2808

mmmm, steeeenky narcissus flowers. sometimes i find the scent a little too cloying, but these blooms haven’t been too overly pungent.

last night’s dinner was a big pot of veg chkn and dumplings. i used this recipe that i found through mypapercrane. ohmygoodness, was it delicious! the “meat” is a chicken-style seitan. the only part of the recipe i skipped was the addition of celery. i’m not a big fan of the stuff. oh, and i didn’t have tarragon, so i substituted marjoram. i think i’ll have some of the leftovers for dinner tonight.

this weekend will involve sewing and perhaps some papercraft. and yes, i’ll post pictures when i’m done.

the only crafting i’ve done lately is to add a few rows to the clapotis every other day. at this rate, i might finish it by summer 2008.

oh, and i sewed together a bunch of fleece remnants to make a blanket. yay for having a serger!

so then there’s pie. i love pumpkin pie.

IMG_2804

i baked it last night and had a slice for breakfast. yummmmmm.

i still have another big can of pumpkin guts in the cupboard, but no plans for it yet. bread? muffins? soup? hmmmm…

itty bitty baby booties, take 2

December 1, 2007 at 8:54 am | In crafts, sewing | 4 Comments

now that my friend has received the package i sent, i can post about what i made last weekend: another pair of baby booties!

IMG_2798

i used the Heather Bailey pattern again, but used cotton fabrics this time around.

IMG_2799

the booties are fully lined, with no seams showing. what i ended up doing is making four little booties, each out of one thickness of cotton fabric. one bootie became the outside, one bootie became the lining. the uppers are the same dragonfly print, in different colorways. the soles are also printed with dragonflies, but the fabric is of a different texture and design.

IMG_2800

it took a little more time than one layer of felt had, but i was pleased with the results.

IMG_2801

i embellished them with some leftover felt bits, and used silk ribbon for the ties. the recipient of the booties is pleased with them, and so am i.
