stain? what stain?

my favorite comfortable-super-old-used-to-be-a-different-color linen shirt seems to have developed a small group of stains on the front, about halfway down the button-hole side. i don’t know what caused the stains, since i’m so very accurate when i shovel food into my mouth. ha! i should admit that this shirt was white when i purchased it all those years ago, and let’s just say i’m not a person who should be buying white clothing. i’m pretty much guaranteed to spill something on it. i should own stock in the company that manufactures Procion dyes, since i end up using them so often.

i wanted to cover them with some embroidery, but what kind of design? i also got a little intimidated, thinking i would need to do a lot of embroidery all over the shirt, to tie it all together. you’d think i’d know better by now – even a little bit of embroidery can work wonders.

i free-handed the design and used variegated pearl cotton that i purchased in the early 90s. i forgot that this particular thread isn’t exactly colorfast, so when i hand-washed the shirt after i finished, some of the color ran. whoops. but! if it follows suit with the kitchen towel i embroidered using that thread, it’ll eventually fade.

and it’s not like i need this shirt for dressy occasions or anything, so a little extra color around the thread isn’t going to be a big deal. i just wanted to hide the stains, since they were so obvious.

now, i’ll be heading back to the craft room for more adventures in bias binding!
